WESTSAIL 28 Tour #3-Galley and Chart Table

This is the third installment of the tour thru ZOSHA.......
#1 was the V-berth, #2 was the Head, and today we'll go through the galley and chart table area.......

There was no stove when I bought the boat.....I think at one time there was an Origo 3000 installed here. When we take off to go cruising, I'll put in another stove. The 3 holes outboard of the sink were also there when I bought the boat....have no idea what they were for??? I suspect a high capacity filter for drinking water was installed here??? As you can see, the boat has air conditioning and again it was installed when I bought her....when we go cruising, the air con will go.....it takes up a very spacious hanging locker...

Solid teak door separates main cabin from V-Berth.....lots of storage under sink and stove area.......

Defender sells a Contour 2 burner non-pressurized alcohol stove that is the exact size and BTU capacity of the Origo for about $200 less ..... you can see the reflection of my knee in the stainless back splash in this photo...oops!

Fresh and Salt water FinnSpray hand pumps. A lot of storage behind sink and stove area.....

Nice BIG drawers!!!....the skinny cabinet next to the drawers is where I keep alot of my tools.....

Real nice chart table....top hinges up....alot of storage underneath

Another shot of the door........on the right behind the compression post is the head....the door serves double duty as the door to the head.....

Westsail's are renown for their robust construction....these two plugs came from the cockpit where I drilled to install the fill fittings for the diesel and water. From the top of the plug it's fiberglass-plywood-fiberglass.....at this point the deck is almost 1 1/4 inches thick.....!!! No wonder ZOSHA displaces 13,500 lbs !!

That's the tour my friends......hope you all liked it. I'll try to get the next one of the Salon area and Quarter Berth posted in a week or so...until then....Take Care My Friends and Peace To You All..

Don't Tread on Me #9.....Final Chapter ......Reflections......

This teak deck removal and new non-skid application project has been a huge undertaking. No wonder the boat yards were quoting me thousands of $ to do it. My total cost for the project excluding labor was about $400 most of which was spent on 4 gallons of non-skid coating at $70 per gallon. Well after a year or so it's finally finished. I thought it might be nice to reminisce and take you all through the complete project in one fatal swoop.........

Don't Tread On Me #8- the Last Bite Of The Elephant...

Remember when you were a little kid screwin' around on the school playground with your pals? Recall  Elephant Jokes and how hilarious we thought they were? Yes sir they were right up there in hilarity with Sir Walter Raleigh in a Can  and the ever popular .....
Is your Refrigerator Running? Remember? Sure you do......it's short term memory that goes first ! Do you recall this one....
"How do you eat an elephant?"
Answer: "one bite at a time!!".....yuk yuk yuk yuk.....
One can draw an analogy between eating an elephant and removing the teak decks and replacing the non-skid a 28 foot sailboat.....you can't do it all at once....it's too overwhelming a process to do single handed.
You approach it a bite at a time.
After removing all the teak decking and filling about 1000 screw holes with epoxy resin and spending months cleaning the 35 year old caulk and crud and dead bugs out of the factory molded, perfectly good underlying non-skid deck and sanding and scraping and scrubbing,
FINALLY !!!! the last bite of my metaphorical elephant .......the starboard side deck!!!  We have had some very nice weather here lately and the job has progressed at warp speed.....with good weather this final section will take three days to complete ...........
DAY 1
Got my weapons ready for battle...!

Cruddy old caulk

This hole is for the Holding Tank pump out fitting....

Ready for scrubbing...
Cleaned and ready for two coats of primer......

Day 2.........

Two coats primer and one coat non-skid.......

Day 3......
Last two coats of non-skid........the elephant has been consumed...!!

Whooo-Wheee ....it's done!!!

Take care my friends....peace to you all

ZOSHAS WAKE ......Facelift!!

No boat work today.....the sun is shining with little wind blowing....zero probability of rain...What no boat work today? You must be wondering.....why?  Its 34.6 degrees F. right now as I speak! Remember what's been said on this blog about this unpredictable Houston weather? Well, today is a prime example. Beautiful day and 2 degrees F. above freezing......! Tana and I did make a little progress on the foredeck this past weekend when it was in the high 70's degree F.  I'll post some progress pics in a couple days....it's too cold now to go out to the truck and get my camera........

What I did do today was change the look of this blog. A couple of you mentioned to me that the background of the original ZOSHAS WAKE was distracting and made it difficult to read. So we've got a new look. Hope this is better for you guys.

Take care my friends.....peace to us all.........
